- Click on an "Empty" button (one of the white squares, between the Index windows) to create an empty working subset of the database in the associated Index window. Now, the word counts in the Index show how many of each word are in your subset. Initially, all counts are zero.
- Shift-click on words in an Index window to add them to your working subset. Shift-Option-click on words to subtract them from your working subset.
- Click on a word in the Index window. In the Context window, you will now see only the instances of that word in your working subset displayed.
- Use a "Fill" button (one of the gray squares) to return to full database browsing in the associated Index window.
- Use a "Not" button (one of the white circles on a gray background square) to invert a subset in the associated Index window.
- Use the "AND" or "OR" buttons (the shaded intersecting circles) to find Boolean combinations of the working subsets in the two Index windows.
- Small auxiliary windows show you the equivalent parenthesized Boolean search statements which you have generated with your mouse click operations. Any Boolean search can be generated by the appropriate sequence of clicks!
